What is a Mons Pubis Reduction & Lift (Monsplasty)?

The mons are located in the upper part of the female vulva and protect the pubic bone. A monsplasty procedure reduces the size of "bulging" mons by liposuctioning the excess fat. Excess skin may need to be removed in some cases. Additionally, we offer skin tightening by Renuvion Jplasma for added benefit.

The procedure is performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon under local or general anesthesia.

Women who undergo a mentoplasty see an immediate improvement and may also realize significant benefits to their psychological well-being due to a more positive body image.

You may be a good candidate for a monsplasty if you:

  • Have an enlarged or excess skin in this area due to aging or weight loss
  • Are you in good health

A mons pubis reduction may also be combined with other vaginal rejuvenation procedures, including labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction, or vaginoplasty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mons pubis?

The term mons pubis comes from Latin for “pubic mound,” and mons Venus or mons veneris is Latin for “mound of Venus.”  Anatomically, it refers to the fleshy mound of tissue overlying the pubic bone in a female.

What is a "FUPA"?

FUPA is a crass slang acronym, not an actual medical term. It refers to a prominent mons pubis, visible through clothing.

What if I have a large mons pubis?

If your mons pubis is larger or “puffier” than you like and is unsightly in tight clothing, you may be a candidate for a mons pubis reduction procedure.  Mons pubis reduction can be made with liposuction, a mons pubis lift, or both.

What is the procedure to reduce mons Pubis?

The mons pubis area is composed mainly of fat.  Liposuction of the mons pubis is a minimally invasive procedure in which the fat is suctioned from the mons pubis area, making it flatter and less prominent.  At FemSculpt, our surgeons use tumescent liposuction, SmartLipo, or Vaser Liposuction to reduce the mons pubis through tiny incisions.

What is a mons pubis lift?

The costs for perineoplasty vary widely and will depend on the extent of the repair required. The average range for this procedure in Chicago is $2500-$6000. At FemSculpt, we offer competitive pricing as well as many financing options to assist patients financially.

What is recovery for a mons pubis reduction or mons pubis lift?

Recovery from a mons procedure should be less than one week.  There is usually swelling and bruising of the area that can last for several weeks, but most patients can return to work in 3-4 days.

Is a monsplasty (mons pubis reduction) painful?

The discomfort and swelling of mons pubis  liposuction are similar to other liposuction procedures.  Most patients are sore and bruised for 1-2 weeks, but most don’t require more than Tylenol.  With a mons lift, the recovery is similar to recovery from a C-Section scar.

Are there drains with a mons pubis reduction procedure?

Drains may be used in mons lift and when lipo of the mons is aggressive.  Your surgeon will determine if a drain is needed after a mons procedure.  Drains usually stay in for only 3-4 days if needed.

What is anesthesia for a mons pubis reduction?

Although mons reduction can be made under local anesthetic, it is generally recommended to be sedated, especially if the reduction is extensive or combined with other procedures like tummy tuck or labiaplasty.

How much does mons pubis reduction cost?

Mons pubis reduction surgery can range from $4,000-$7,000 depending on the extent of the procedure, the type of anesthetic used, or if a lift or skin resection is required.
